                                                              J.  D.  Nelson  (b.  1971)  experiments
                                                              with  words  in  his  subterranean
                                                              laboratory.  He  is  the  author  of
                                                              several   collections   of   poetry,
                                                              including  Cinderella  City  (The  Red
                                                              Ceilings Press, 2012). Nelson lives in
                                                              Colorado, USA.

                       feeding the squirkels some peanuts

                       now is a lark henry to stand in for watt never knew

                       clouds over there you know it was earth I think
                       or maybe fluorescent goose world

                       helping the wolf is a duck with swords for feathers

                       what are we supposed to do without machines?
                       WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD AND LIGHTS?

                       would you like a pamphlet of poetry?
                       how’ll I howl at the moonish orb?

                       I forget how to start the machine
                       it all makes sense up here in the balloon
